Hello and welcome to my blog about genealogy research in Minnesota. There are many people here who are interested in genealogy and may benefit from a wider community of knowledge.
I created this blog for genealogical researchers in Minnesota; more specifically I intend to advertise this blog to people who attend the public library classes on conducting genealogical research. I would include my own learning experiences in genealogical research and post new learning curves in research specifically in MN and nearby communities. I hope that others would join and post about their experiences as well. In this blog researchers should be able to discover new tools and information about genealogy in MN. Furthermore, if I see that the blog is successful, I would share it with other public and special libraries in MN. While there are indeed a number of informative blogs about genealogy, many of them focus on news and events. I feel a blog authored by a subject specialty librarian that focuses on a particular region (MN) and research knowledge and advice could be beneficial to a wider audience.
A blog can be a great way to engage researchers who may live in all corners of the state of MN, especially those who may have access to relevant documents in remote areas. It is a more personal online tool (IMO) and relatively easy to join and use; these factors may be important for a variety of researchers who may not be familiar with other social software. I also like the archive tool. Researchers may return to earlier posts for review. My main request in regard to use of the blog is that participants properly label their entries so other users would understand the nature of their post. In addition to proper labeling, all participants should know that I (as the librarian/moderator) may add some directions or advice to various posts if I see that it may be difficult for others to understand.
